Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon massive drops or trade. This article will teach you how to upgrade your gear effectively.

Upgrades to equipment give an increase in the item's stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the things that can make your weapons and armor more effective. They can be obtained by fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres or buying them from karma merchants. You can also get them from equipment containing the components or through salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed by removing them from the item.

Upgrade components are mostly used to upgrade an item however, they can also be used for other purposes. They can be stacked to increase the level of experience gained by upgrading existing equipment or weapons. They can also be made to give additional bonuses. For instance, a created glyph can increase the chances of upgrading its target, while the boost upgrade can increase the attack or defense property of a weapon, or armor.

By selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will display the upgrade components to which the item can be updated. You can also make use of the workbench to choose an upgrade template. In either case, the item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components have been collected.

Each component has its own experience multiplier, which determines the amount of experience an item will gain when it is upgraded with that component. Organic components, for example, have a higher multiplier of experience than mechanical components. You should upgrade your organic components first until you reach the next rank in the weapon or equipment, and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.

Each item has a maximum upgrade number that is available for. The number of items that can be upgraded is determined by their upgradeable rank and the kind of upgrade they are able to receive.
