How to Replace an audi etron key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is connected but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know both the speed and position of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement audi a3 key. They're cheap and easy to find, especially when they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues with your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi keys replacement since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a standard part that is found across the audi a5 key fob q5 key (Recommended Internet page) 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.Mazda-3D-Black.png
